What inspired you to work with Book Cottage?

I was drawn in by the energy and dedication of a small but mighty global team who understands the value and the joy of reading.  Books were an influential part of my youth and I want to provide opportunities for the youth of Afghanistan to also explore that transformative childhood experience.  To this day I am guided by my mom’s gentle reminder to always set aside some time to get “lost in a book.”

A book you suggest that one should read?

So many choices! But I would say… “We Should all be Feminists” by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.  It is an accessible read. Short and sweet but nonetheless powerful and important!

A book character that you would like to be best friends with?

“Nancy Drew,” from the Nancy Drew Mystery Stories, published under the pen name of Carolyn Keene.  Nancy was ahead of her time!

A quote from a book that you have underlined?

“Understanding is love’s other name. If you don’t understand, you can’t love.”

-Thich Nhat Hanh, How to Love
